WHY REAL FOOD?
More people are turning to a plant based diet for personal health and lifestyle reasons, which is wonderful. However, we need to fully appreciate that our dogs are obligate carnivores or omnivores, and they are built to thrive on a meat and plant-based diet. Certain vegetables, fruits and seeds are excellent sources of nutrition, but should accompany a foundational meat recipe. in fact, even their wolf cousins in the wild derive nutrition from both plant and animal sources. BENEFITS OF "REAL" FOOD

THE SCIENCE
Dogs require 22 essential amino acids to handle all their metabolic and energy requirements, but their bodies are only able to produce 12 of the 22. The other 10 must come from the food they eat. Essential amino acids from high quality animal protein build healthy cells, organs, muscles, enzymes and hormones. Dietary fat provides energy, essential vitamins and important animal fatty acids from sources that are important for healing, normal cell membrane synthesis, reproduction and a healthy coat and skin. As you can see, protein is a crucial component of every cell in your dog's body. These home made stews are made using the finest local meats and produce available, wherever possible. The recipes are based on nutritional research and diets created by: Richard H Pitcairn (DVM), Rick Woodford, and Andi Brown, and have been vetted by a holistic veterinarian and an animal nutritionist. Sophii's meals are prepared at the temperatures necessary to remove hazardous bacteria and improve digestibility, all while best preserving the integrity of our ingredients. Our primary nutrients are derived from natural whole foods. We use the highest quality human grade produce and meats to achieve the nutrition needed for dogs to thrive. These stews provide a full balanced diet, but can also be used in concert with your dog's regular dry food (daily kibble intake cut by half and supplemented with stew added to kibble). THE CHOICES
Today, we have such an array of choices in what and how we feed our fur-babies, just as we have more conscientious choices for ourselves. Our lifestyle, wellness goals, budgets and ecological alliances all influence what we put into the food bowls, and our own plates. Does it make sense to feed a biologically inappropriate commercial pet food with added flavour enhancers and digestive aids, when you can feed your dog whole, unprocessed, species-appropriate nutrition? We believe you value sustainable and local ingredients for yourself, and it makes sense to extend those benefits to your own dog too. You have choices, and Sophii is happy to offer you an option for healthy and locally sustainable whole food meals for your dog. As with any wellness plan changes, please check your pet's dietary and nutritional requirements
with a veterinarian before changing your dog's diet. |
